When life goes to sh__, do you silence all the other voices and focus on praying?

Having been in a rough season of life this question came to me. So I took stock of myself and looked back at all the big storms in my life: Family, friends, jobs, health, everything. I arrived at the answer. And this post is not about me. I am not perfect, no one is. But the question was curious and inspiring.

And honestly it doesn't matter what your answer is about your past storms in life. What matters is the choice you make when the next storm of life comes up!

When that storm comes up. Whether it's financial security, or a health problem, or making major changes in your life. What do you do? Do you just blindly do what you always do? If so...

How's that working out for ya?

Or on the other hand. Do you reach towards friends or family? If so, stop for a moment. Are those friends you run to good people? People who have genuine good will towards you? Are they trustworthy? Have they even betrayed you or abused you? Do you really want those people speaking into your life in this tough time? If you looked back on the past when you went to these people? Did they help you or was their support just more hurt for you in the end? Hindsight is 20/20 after all.

Or do you silence all the voices around you. Do you slow your life and anxiety down and fall down, asking the Lord for help? What would happen if you got council from the creator of the universe?

This is something I did for the first time in my life, this current rough season. And I can tell you it's amazing. It's not that my friends are bad, in fact they are great. It's not that I don't care about them or want their council. I just needed to only listen to the Lord in this particular season. This one was so deep and confusing that I needed the path of perfect. The path of the God who plays chess backwards.

When you cannot afford to make a mistake, silence the world and ask God for direction!
