Entertainment vs. Life

As a recovering video game addict this concept has become a regular part of my thoughts.

Am I entertaining my life away? Am I entertaining myself away from happiness? Contentment? Fulfillment? Or worse?

There's an old saying out there.

"All evil needs is for good people to do nothing."

Here's something to consider.

"All you need to do is be entertained every day, and someone else will accomplish your dreams."

I lost 10 years of my life to video games. I did almost nothing but play them. Now I am over 40 and so much time has been lost. Time that I could have been practicing, growing, learning, refining myself to be doing what I truly love. What truly gives me hope, passion, and fulfillment. I squandered that decade of life... on entertainment.

Sure there are "good" memories and times. But they are whispers on the wind compared to where I could be with my life.

Don't get me wrong. There's nothing wrong with entertainment. But it should not consume a solid portion of your everyday, if you want to accomplish anything in your life. All the successful people work, instead of being entertained.

I had to make a choice, and it's a choice I have to renew regularly.

"Do I want to waste my life away being entertained? Or do I want to chase my dreams?"

It's your life. It's your story. The question is... "Are you writing the story you want? Or are your dreams collecting dust on the shelf while you sit and be entertained?"

The Practice Journey

Plugging along. Getting better every day. And it's so much more rewarding than entertainment!
