Control Freaks are Idolaters?

Having dealt with a great many controlling people in my lifetime I came to a realization.

I realized that the people who want to grasp you and squeeze you, manipulating you to do what they want are people who have no idea they have created an idol in their own heads.

You see when you are hell bent on getting people to do, say, act or whatever you want them to. You are truly putting your own selfish perception above all things, even yourself ironically.

You seek that outcome so much that you have put it on a pedestal and are spending countless amounts of energy trying to get what you want to happen.

Of course running headlong down this thought rabbit hole leads one to self evaluation.

Am I doing that?

Do I have an idol? Something I am so focused on happening that it's become more important to me than my own life, my friends and family, and The Lord?

I think we can all relate to doing this, even in small ways, over the course of our lives. But if you seem to be doing it regularly, or worse daily, perhaps you should take a step back. And cast down that idol, before it consumes more of your precious life in the future...
