Can You Be Disconnected From Yourself?
Sometimes we override ourselves by thinking too much or too hard. We feel something, but then run that feeling over with what we think we want, what we think looks good.
Ever run into a time when your thoughts/opinions were disconnected from your feelings?
Let me try this example to help illustrate.
While shopping cologne I found a scent that when I smelled it, I was like "oh yeah, I like how this smells"
But then I thought about it and questioned myself with "But is this the right kind of smell I am going for?"
You see the first was how I felt. The smell was good, I liked it a lot
But the second is what my brain said. "Do you think this is right? Do you think you like this?"
Sometimes we override ourselves by thinking too much or too hard. We feel something, but then run that feeling over with what we think we want, what we think looks good.
And sometimes we undermine or self-sabotage ourselves by convincing ourselves something is good or right, when we already felt the truth. It's wrong. It's bad. I don't actually want this.
Now of course the opposite happens as well. The opposite can be true as well. Bad things can definitely feel good. Toxic people can make us feel good. And many other such things.
But for today it struck me that I was willing to turn from something I liked, just because I thought to myself I don't like it.
Human existence is such a whacky thing sometimes...
