Are We Guilty Of Losing Perspective?
First, what is perspective?
Well dictionaries would say something like: "a mental view, the state of one's ideas." or Perhaps "A persons individual way of viewing things".
Put another way. It's the way you see the world around you. It's your opinions interacting with reality. Or also, your point of view.
Perspective is often subjective. Meaning if you are afraid of heights, then standing on a 10ft ladder is scary. But if you are not afraid of heights, you can be 1,000ft up on a mountain and it's not scary.
So perspective is personal. Which also means it's possible to lose it, since it's personal and unique to you...
Now alongside perspective we all have struggles. We all have unanswered prayers. We are all lonely, overly busy, overwhelmed, or directionless.
Now what I am about to say is not to take away from anyone’s genuine pain, misfortune, or horrible circumstances. Let me be clear. Because there are people who are living in sex trafficking, being tortured by evil people, in abusive relationships, scared for missing family members, living under the shadow of violence, and so many other horrible things.
But if you’re not in one of those types of life situations, have you considered that you might have lost your perspective?
At some point or another we can all feel crushed. Feel depressed. Feel anxious. Feel scared. Feel annoyed. Feel whatever. But are you complaining about not having while your life isn’t that bad? I know I have been running into this for years off and on, over and over.
For example. Are you praying for more income, while you have a home and with climate control HVAC and food in your pantry? If so. Great! But if you’re genuinely feeling depressed or upset The Lord hasn’t answered your prayers yet… Think about that for a minute...
How many other situations, that aren’t violent or abusive, are we all praying for The Lord to improve. And while we’re still waiting... We’re getting depressed or frustrated or anxious despite having good things and good people around us while we wait?
